We booked our accommodation at Coralie's Guesthouse from the 23rd of December 2013 until the 2nd of January 2014 - a total of 10 days. We were 3 families that booked out the whole house at a fee of R1, 800 per day i.e. R18, 000 for the holiday - accommodation only.
The day we arrived we were upset about the cleanliness of the house. The linen and towels in the house was dirty and you could smell that it wasn't washed before we arrived. My wife actually took the linen and towels to the laundry the next day as the smell was unbearable. The kitchen utensils was dirty and we ended up buying our own utensils and glasses to use during our stay.
After the second morning, I woke up with "bite marks" across the right hand side of my body (the side that I usually sleep on). I initially thought that it was mosquito bites but it got worse as the holiday progressed even after I applied mosquito repellent. We've ruled out the fact that it was mosquitos and thought it might be fleas.
The symptoms became worse and we started to think that it could possibly be something different. We went to the doctor when we got home (Cape Town) and the doctor confirmed that the bite marks was scabies and fleas.
