Pathetic compensation for cancelled flight

On 21 Dec 2012, my husband & I left for our honeymoon to Maldives. The Emirates flight left late, so we arrived late in Dubai. However, we ran across the airport & made it just in time for boarding onto our flight to Maldives. We were bumped off because Emirates could not transfer the luggage in time and informed us that we would only fly out 24 hrs later. After 4 hrs of being sent from pillar to post trying to get an earlier flight, with no sympathy from Emirates staff, we were transferred to the Emirates hotel to wait for a 22h00 flight to Maldives via Doha. Again, poor customer treatment with minimal assistance to inform our hotel of our arrival a day late. Result: *Lost day on honeymoon *Close to 40 hrs travel *Resulting stress, no sleep, huge frustration *No refund from hotel in Maldives for lost night *Added a night in Maldives to make up for lost night, which cost double the amount. When asking Sandton Emirates for compensation, I received long email from customer services apologising & usual blah blah, with ridiculous offer of 10000 Skywards miles each as compensation. This gets you nowhere and in no way makes up for our loss. When querying this, I received no more replies.
