Airports Company South Africa
Bribes

My 90 yr old mother flew from Capetown int to Durban int 2 weeks ago. She is one of your assisted passengers, with a hip replacement. At the check point the security person said that she had an object in her bag that looked suspicious. So the security person rummaged through the bag, upsetting medication and other stuff, until a tiny scissor, that is used for snipping threads, was found. The security person then told my mother that she was carrying a dangerous instrument. The security person told my mother that she must pay R350.00 if she wanted to take the scissor on board, the plane. But my mother said that she didn't have that amount of money on her, and gave up the instrument.
My question is, are you allowed to carry dangerous instruments into a plane, if you pay R 350.00, or are the security people at the check point at Capetown int taking bribes. This is when things get scary.
