Planet fitness Ignores Cancellations to Benefit

I sent through a cancellation letter to the people they handed my account to between Nov 2012 and Dec 2012. I made an arrangement to pay monthly R500 or R400. I skipped 2 months Aug and Sept as i was not working, started new job last day of September and i continued with my agreement.(paid R500) and I was concerned that it seems i am not finishing this debts so i asked for a statement of account to settle, the consultants put me on hold for more than 10min today (saya recoveries). When the lady called me back she then asked me if i ever cancelled becase Planet fitness has been billing from Dec 2012 till today because my contract was automatically activited for more years.
Arguments:
- i sent cancellation letter
- No 1 contacted me from July untill they tried debiting my old accour R250 (absa) in sept
- I did not discuss to auto continue my contract - infact what kind of business are you running to continue a contract when you have identified that there is a financial constrait with the customer already. i was barely managing to finish this in 2012 already so how do you continue.
- No one told me that my account was active, in my mind it is cancelled because i sent in a request
