Beares
Beares contravening Electronic Communications Act

On 27 November at 10:45 I received a promotional sms from Beares for free gifts with selected purchases. At the end of the sms, users are asked to "Stop to Opt out". I replied with the word "Stop" and received a delivery report at 11:15 on the same day.

However, on 28 November at 15:37, I received another promotional sms from Beares, this time with a video. However, the end of this sms asks users "To opt out SMS the words "OPTOUT 1788" to 31234. SMS charged at R0.50"

I did not sign up for spam from Beares. I did not ask them for a quote, or interact with them at all. In no way did I ever give them permission to contact me with promotional or marketing material at all. And now, to remove myself from their database I have to pay?

I would like someone from Beares to contact me, explain where they got my details from and to summarily remove me from their database. I would also like to know why they are spamming people who are on the 'Do not contact' list.
