I went to Checkers yesterday to purchase groceries and when I got to the butchery section to buy chicken, I noticed that the fridge was semi-dismantled and that someone was intermittently working on the fridge. No problem whatsoever, other than all the fresh chicken lying on shelves that were hot to the touch. Surely the products should have been moved to another fridge. I called the manager and he came and all he kept saying to me was that they were working on the problem - I was in the store at around 11 and I asked the staff when the fridge had broken and they said on Saturday so the chicken was lying on the non refrigerated shelves for 12 hours. I asked the butchery manager whether this did not pose a health risk to us and all he said once again was that they were working on the problem... I was left with no other alternative but to leave my whole trolley of shopping with all the wonderful specials in and go and shop at Woolworths because I wasnt prepared to risk my wellbeing and health with warm chicken.
