Wanted 2 move 2 other security company due 2 bad service. Submitted 1 month cancellation only 2 b advised that our 3 yr contract has not expired... well, what a surprise that was as we were never informed that we signed a contract with ADT? 1 March 2007 we purchased alarm system through Starforce signed a 1 yr contract with them. During 2011 ADT took over Starforce. Dont know exact date as we were never informed of takeover or never given the choice of moving to ADT or not and we were not asked to sign a new contract with ADT.At this point our original 1 year contract with Starforce had expired and we were not under any contractual expiry date. March 2011 we decided to make changes 2 alarm system. (move siren, added 2 window magnets, added a radio transmitter). Together with upgrade documents sales rep had my parents sign new installation contract (which was illegal as this was NO new installation only an upgrade) and he did not even tell my parents they were signing a new contract for 36 months. If he did inform them they would have been aware of expiry date. I have taken the matter up with ADT as they want to charge cancellation fee of R552 even though contract is illegal.
