On Sunday August 4th we decided to go to the Zoo to celebrate a friends birthday as a big group and I must say I was very disappointed about the upkeep of the Zoo and its animals..
For one there was litter and empty beer bottles everywhere even thou there are dustbins everywhere, it just seems that no one has a responsibility to ensure the Zoo remains clean at all times.
Secondly most of the animals seemed very unhappy which is probably understandable seeing that they live in confined spaces eg 3 elephants in a tiny space that is probably sufficient for one, penguins wings being tied with what appeared to be cable-ties... We also looked forward to the minimal feedings and were advised that the Lions and Tigers only get fed every second day which is believable seeing that the one male tiger was so skinny looked like he hasn't had food in weeks!
We would really like to see the Zoo improve and that they Start Looking After These Wonderful Animals!! And it is very possible as we pay R66 per person for entrance to the Zoo..They sure make enough money to be able to keep the animals fed and happy!
