My boyfriend and I arranged with Gary Bruyns Properties to see an apartment in May 2013 that they were advertising to rent from 1 July 2013. Upon seeing it I told them we wished to rent it. I was advised I needed to pay a deposit of R16000 (R7000 being rent) upfront to secure the apartment. I did so. I went in during June to sign the lease and gave my landlord notice that I was moving out 1 July 2013. Today, 11 days before we are to move, I received an e-mailing saying I could not rent the property as the landlord was moving into the property. Gary Bruyns had no mandate nor secured consent from the landlord to rent the place to us. Their excuse is that they assumed it would be fine as they have rented it out for the landlord before. I am shocked and disgusted at their negligent behavior and misrepresentation that they were authorised to rent the place. They are unconcerned that in 11 days we are without a place to stay. Notice was only given to our landlord after we were assured we could rent the property. Taking money from us without a mandate is shocking and I intend to take this matter to prevent other people being in the same situation as us. Disgusting!
