I took my Husband to the SASSA Offices in East London, Buffalo Street to apply for an Old Age Pension. My Husband has a walking disability and on arrival told that the lift is not working and he would have to walk up the 25 stairs or not be attended to.
After leaving my husband downstairs I went up stairs, and eventually after 3 hours waiting got someone to help me. I was given the Affidavit form for my husband to sign 5 times, because each time after having it stamped by the Commissioner of Oaths who was under the influence of alchol, it was the wrong Affidavit.
Eventually, the Affidavit was correct and now had to wait a further 2 hours to have the Tracking form completed - only to be told that the printers were not working and they could not do anymore. The forms have been left there with no receipt. I was told I need to pop in every day to see if printers working.
On leaving the offices I was attacked and robbed - why should we have to go through this again when you have to fear for your life.
The offices and its staff are a disgrace the staff don't say they close for lunch, sit and have their lunch in the reception and then go off when a relief member comes.
