Dr C Papavarnavas
Terrible Doctor

When my sister told me that she was using Dr Papa for her pregnancy my blood ran cold. I went to him for my very first gynea appointment when I was 16 and I vowed to never go back after a horrible experience. I advised her to reconsider but she decided to stay with him due to him apparently being a Diabetic specialist. Throughout her pregnancy he did not seem to give her the support and information which I have become used to getting during my 2 pregnancies with my own Gynea. She would sometimes be rushed through an appointment and not even told what the weight or size of her baby was. Her pregnancy was generally uncomplicated other than a bout of Gastro which he incorrectly treated as Starvation Syndrome and blamed it on her Diabetes - after consultation at the Centre for Diabetes it turned out that it had nothing to do with her Diabetes. She unfortunately decided to remain under his care even after his clear lack of Diabetes knowledge. This man kept pushing her to go until 39 weeks gestation before booking her in for her c-section. At her 37 week scan her baby weighed a whopping 3.7kgs and he still did not think it was time to deliver this baby - even though it is known practice to deliver babies from Diabetic mothers early due to the risk of them getting too big. At her final 38 week scan it was established that her baby boy had passed away. He had been strangled by the Umbilical cord and when he was removed he weighed 4.2kgs and had clearly run out of space. The lack of empathy that this man displayed was nothing short of inhumane. Not once did he acknowledge any of our family members who rushed to gather at my sister's bedside. After the procedure to have her baby removed he came out of the ward in his suit and tie, gave us a 2 second update about how the procedure went well and then scurried away to carry on consulting to get more money. The only reason we found out the cause of death or how much he weighed was because of the anaethatist who was the only one who actually acknowledged us as a family and sympathised with us. He explained everything to us, including her prospects at a future baby. As far as I am concerned, Dr Paparvarnavas should not be practicing medicine. He is an awful, cold hearted, emotionless man who very clearly is responsible for the death of my nephew. I understand that things like this happen, however this particular case could have been avoided had he thought beyond his bank account and delivered the baby when he saw that he weighed 3.7kgs!
