My son and I went on a backline fishing trip with Johnny from ABC Charters (they run the Tom Cat / Wave Walker fishing boat). As soon as we were on the boat, Johnny announced that the fishing had been bad lately at the usual spots, but if we were all prepared to give him an extra R100 each, he would take us on a "mini deep sea" trip, for which he would use more fuel, therefore the extra money. Well, we went out to a spot call "number one", and sat there for 2 hours and caught nothing! Then he went to a spot off the Bluff, where we sat for 3 hours, and very few fish were caught.
My issue is not about the poor fishing, but rather the fact that Johnny his clients out of about R1000, and didn't go anywhere special. In fact, only about 30 to 40 litres of fuel was used, which is very little considering the size of the engines.
Furthermore, Johnny has the foulest mouth I have heard in a long time, and swore like a trooper, even though there was a young lady aboard.
Then, after a fairly big eel was caught, he simply cut the line without disentangling the fish, which more than likely meant that it died a horrible death.
I have run out of space, but anglers beware... stay away!
