Most people are aware by now of the discrepancy between the Afrikaans & English versions of the Government Gazette regarding toll fees. CHECK THIS OUT: - In section 3.2.4 of the "Tariewe" section in the Afrikaans version of the Government Gazette it states alternative users will be billed in accordance with Column 5. Eg. Class A2 vehicle at Barbet gantry will be billed R5.80. In section 5.19.1 it states that a discount of 60% of the tariff in Column 6 will be given if paid within 30 days. 60% of the tariff in Column 6 for the same gantry is R17.40 x 60% = R10.44. Therefore SANRAL would owe you R5.80 - R10.44 = R 4.64. Unfortunately according to section 5 the discounts can not exceed the tariff, therefore if you "pay" within 30 days you should pay NOTHING!!! This of course only applies to all of us refusing to get e-tags, the rest are pretty much. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
