Whether it was coincidental or whether it a trend .. that is the question.
I have to use hotels a lot due to the nature of my job and for the most of it I stayed in the Southern Sun Hotels where I have reached the highest level on the their frequent guest program.
I stayed at the Southern Sun Cape Sun last week and to make a long story shot was not recognised as one of their most frequent customers. The point of the matter is that I found out there were large groups staying at the hotel at the same time, and it became clear that these groups were exponentially more important than frequent guests.
This week I checked into the Elangeni in Durban and try to book my next stay for the week of the 25th of March, but was told that due to a large group of people booking in there are no space left. What did become VERY clear is that a large group booking once again took preference over customers who consistently support Southern Sun.
I realize it is all about the money - it was just a nasty way of finding out .. Would it such an issue to advise your Frequent Guests of big events that will affect room availability??
