On Friday, 8 November myself and a few friends stayed over at the Gateway Hotel. I did my booking via the Internet while my friend made her booking telephonic and we both booked rooms for 2 people. When I made the booking, I requested a double room with 2 single beds. However, upon arrival, we were given a room with a queen size bed.
I also learned, that due the fact that my booking was made via the Internet, my account was almost R500 more than that of my friend. This was for accommodation only. When I queried this, I was told it is because I indicated it was for 2 people and that I am paying a "convenience" penalty for the Internet booking.
I is the first time I hear of a convenience penalty of R500 for an Internet booking. Normally I am charged a cheaper rate due to the internet booking and I found this totally unacceptable.
