We did not have a great experience at Bella's Cottage (De Pondok). The fridge did not work properly, nor did the freezer. All meat, including trout & pates purchased in Dullstroom, were spoiled.
Electricity meter in unit was not charged with enough electricity to support us for the duration of our stay. We froze not being able to use the heater and light usage was kept to a minimum while we watched meter tick away. We referred to the visitors guide, but there was no mention of pre-paid electricity, nor this being the responsibility of the tenant.
We moved sleeper couch in lounge to the fireplace & slept on this to keep warm. Owner accused us of having other guests over & insisted on payment.
The owner was rude, did not claim responsibility for any faults & stated clearly that it was up to us to rectify any faults experienced. It is the owner's responsibility to ensure that enough electricity be provided. The owner also stated that we "should have just left our food outside the fridge" rather than acknowledging that a poor service was provided. Neglectful and rude service.
Quaint cottage but poorly maintained and we left frozen with over R500 worth of spoiled meat.
