Clayton House
Excellent Care of Terminally Ill Patient

Last year my mother had a partial hip replacement following a fall. As progress with her recovery was slow, tests were conducted and it was established that there was a problem with her back. She then spent approximately two months in hospital and underwent two back operations. Unfortunately, after the surgery, her legs were paralysed and she now faced the prospect of spending the rest of her life in a wheelchair. In addition the wound had become infected and she was losing cerebrospinal fluid. On 6 December she was discharged and placed in Clayton House in order for her to recover as far as possible, and to prepare her for the very different lifestyle which lay ahead. On 9 December her condition deteriorated and she lapsed into a coma. It was now evident that her condition was terminal. She passed away on 11 December. During her short stay at Clayton House, the treatment she recived was excellent. When one considers that this is a rehabilitaion facility and not a terminal care facility, this is very surprising. On behalf of her family I would like to express my thanks the resident physician, Dr. Ranchod, and the management and nursing staff for the excellent care that she received
