I'm a 30yr old mom and 7weeks ago my right breast had an excruciating sharp pain. It was unbearable to a point where I could not sleep on my right side and it was uncomfortable to wear a bra. When the pain subsided a week or so later I discovered foreign lesions when doing my breast self-exam. I was mortified as my aunt died and left her 8 year old daughter motherless at the age of 32. She had Lymphoma and her journey through radiation was a heart-breaking one. So, when I felt this lesion inside me I automatically thought of the worst. Went to the GP, hospital doctors and an ultrasound and mammogramgave results of either a papiloma/complicated infected cyst or clogged duct. Saw specialists some days later and he suggested i remove it for testing as I was scared due to my family history. When requesting hosp auth, the med aid refused point blank telling me the lump has to be malignant before it's removed. So be in the brink of death before we help! Why promote healthy pre-emptive living then? This is not cosmetic surgery & nipping this in the bud saves them a lot. They need to review this plan. It's a catch 22. it's ridiculous and useless whereas med insurance isnt cheap :(
