My family applied to join Bonitas as a result of needing to leave GEMS (my husband changed jobs and left his state post). We verified according to documents on the Bonitas website that as a result of applying to join because of a job change, we would not be subject to any general waiting periods.
We contacted Bonitas in order to check the status of our application and after two weeks or trying to get a clear answer from them, we got an email that our one year old and us have been accepted but that our 3 year old and 7 year old both had a three month waiting period, the one with PMB coverage and the other with no coverage at all. They are both our foster children and we are concerned that this is a race issue as our child who is white has full coverage but they do not. We feel they are being unfairly discriminated against because of being foster children.
I am extremely upset about this especially because their is no logical reason for them to be subject to a waiting period- all five of us were on the same medical aid before this for the same period of time, and neither of them have any chronic health issues.
