I purchase an Apple Macbook Air in Dec 2011. In the less than two years since, I am on my third power cable. My son has also gone through a couple, as has my husband. This is no coincidence. When I went to the Menlyn shop to reluctantly buy my third, I gave the sales rep my story and explained my disappointment at the poor design. He immediately insisted that the product is stellar and it must be something my entire family is doing wrong. I asked him if they didn't get this same complaint from other customers and he responded absolutely not. With no other choice, I paid R999 for my third power adapter and left. Back at home, I did a quick google and found literal dozens of message boards, and chat streams about this very topic. At this rate, in another year, I will have spent as much on power cords as I paid on the notebook itself. Apple is displaying behavior typical of a company who takes its loyal customers for granted. Be careful or you may find yourself commiserating with the Gateways of the world.
