EUC - what does deadline mean?

I successfully submitted an assignment ON the due date according to a site through which Unisa is using,

namely MYITLAB,

however, the site popped up a loving red message stating that late submission items would not be marked.

after contacting the relevant EUP department, I was initially given the finger of dismissal until I threatened media exposure,
at which time I was told that a message was sent out to students advising them, that all online assessments were to be attempted no later than two days prior to the due date, as there was an technical issue.

I ask two questions,

firstly - If i did not receive such stated message, can I still be held liable for that technical issue or fault?

secondly - if there was such an issue, why was it not resolved? surely the masterminds behind an ethics in information and communication module should be able so correct such a small technical fault,

come on UNISA, this is not acceptable, help your students grow and achieve, do not hold them back through technological ineptitude.
