Sydney Maema, an employee in the building/glass section, really went above and beyond in helping me repair a broken wooden window frame. Not knowing much about DIY and having received a R2500 quote to repair the frame, I assumed I'd have to replace the entire frame. After sharing the problem with Sydney, he explained that I was unable to purchase just a glass frame from Builders. He said that I could probably repair the frame (as opposed to replacing it) and that if I brought the frame in (with the glass intact) he would repair it. I replied that I didn't know Builders did repairs; he said they normally didn't and that he would help me. Together, we bought the brackets, screws and nails. Sydney then repaired the frame and replaced the beading. He asked for no money in return. The cost to fix the frame was less than R60. I really appreciate that Sydney explained that a repair could take place and that he repaired the frame for much lower than the handyman quote. Often the response of service people is to extract the maximum amount of money from the DIY ignorant - it was really rather refreshing to receive great friendly service and not feel ripped off.
