Motordeal
Holding Deposits mean nothing anymore

Found a car on [URL Removed] that looked like a great deal, despite being 45mins outside of JHB.
For interest sake, I will tell you that it was a Nissan Murano 2006 model with 100, 000kms on the clock. It was advertised at R139, 000, a fantastic deal when you consider it has leather seats, a reverse camera, head-rest mounted DVD players, the works.
I met Yusuf when I arrived and took the vehicle for a test drive straight away. I was sold. I put down a R2, 000 deposit and promised to return with a bank guaranteed check in about 2-3 weeks.
On day 2 after the test drive, Yusuf phoned to offer me another car.. in fact, the same model just at a better price! I politely declined. He tried again the next week. I asked if there was a problem with the car I had secured to which he replied, "not at all, the car is yours". After returning from holiday I was told the car had been mistakenly sold despite my deposit.
All I will say is 'whatch out'! Dealers will often put a too-good-to-be-true deal on the websites just to get you into the dealership. You pay a holding deposit, and then they tell you they've sold your car and then uptrade you to another. It's blatant and it occurs often. Good luck
