On 30/08/13 I was driving to Swaziland my car broke down. It would not start &oil was leaking. I phoned the AA &was asked if I was in a safe place. I told them no- it was dark, in the middle of nowhere, & it was 8.15PM- I am a woman alone. I was told that the police come & stand with me. The consultant mentioned car hire, but when I asked if it will be applicable outside the border, he wasnt sure &said he would call back - that was the last I heard of it. 1 hour later, they phoned to check my location & said police are coming... an hour later!! When they called me back, they told me that the towing would cost approx R2875 - they would pay R595 &I would be liable for R2280! This is to tow the car to the border gate - less than 70kms away! I told them I would call back, &when I did, I was on hold for over 15mins. My brother in Joburg called them &only then, after another 20mins did they call. I asked for the calculation of the towing costs &he said he would call me back - only later did another person call to explain the cost. I was still sitting there alone, no police! My father arrived from Swaziland at around 10.30pm, we got the car to a safe place & ended up sleeping at the borde
