I bought the Fastway Courier franchise in November 2010 and stayed there for almost 2 years slogging at a great loss. My day started at 5:30am and ended most of the time at about 08:00pm delivering and collecting an average of 100 parcels every day and I was lucky to be paid R2500 a week.
When I complained that my income was inconsistent with my efforts I was told that it was my business and I had to sort it out and yet they were my book-keepers. I finally discovered that I was losing an average of R2000 every month because of what they called "my negligence" in using the scanner. Every time they ran my reports the system informed them that there were deliveries and pickups for which I was not being paid and they withheld that information from me for months.
I decided to report the matter to the Franchise Association of South Africa and they said my claims were untrue but they also summarily cancelled their membership of FASA. Many, many Franchisees opt to walk away from this business at great losses and Fastway just simply carry on and sell the franchises to other ignorant opportunity seekers who become "Just Another Sucker" and I have seen so many in my time there until now.
