Cancelling a function 3 days prior to the function

I booked my son's 16th birthday party more than two months ago. On Monday I went to the restaurant to pay for the function. My money was accepted but I was told that new owners are taking over from the 1st June 2013. Our function would not be affected by this as it is on the 31st May. Yesterday afternoon I received a call from one of the employees who said sorry the new owners came in, sent them home and said no functions will be held. The new owners are doing stock take and will only allow the staff back once they are done. I went to huge expenses to have this event for 70 guests and had to rush out and find a new venue and now have to pay additional costs at the new venue. Not even the new owners had the guts to call me and I'm sure they will not have success at this restaurant if this is the way they do business. This is the worst treatment I have ever had and things like this, makes me doubt the people in our country.
