I was to receive USD via western union, so I went to the TravelEx branch at Fourways today to collect my money (about 2000 USD). I know the rates and was expecting about R18300, they told me "no you get R17400, THATS R1000 less at a rate of 8.58 I believe sorry thats the rate we use, go the supervisor route same arrogance, call head office tell them I want to complain, not even a call back from the person responsible THEY DO NOT CARE.
So while I was in there the customer sitting next to me said use AMEX in Fourways mall, they will be better. So off I go over there and I get a rate of 9.03, which was lets say about R100 more than I was originally expecting.
The moral of the story is DO NOT USE TRAVELEX THEY ARE FIXING RATES, even the head office are not helpful, YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF IF YOU GO TO TRAVELEX.
Oh and this was all done in the same day, you tell me how can they be this wrong, surely they should be investigated.
