To Whom it May Concern,
I took up a contract for data with Cell C in early 2012. This contract clearly stipulated that I would receive 1GB of data every month for a fixed fee. Once this data was used up I would need to wait for the next month for another GB of data. This fixed amount was initially R74.99 and became R174.99 after a few months. I paid what I was billed every month despite not receiving notice of this R100.00 increase in my billing.
In June of this year I received an invoice for R744.99 (including VAT). I initially thought this was a typo/ mistake on the part of Cell C and paid my obligatory R174.99 each month since receiving this bill.
I eventually queried this 'mistake' and was told that when I reach my 1GB of data limit, which I do most months (as reflected by my account), that a R500.00 'credit' is extended to me and that I used up this entire limit. Such a feature was never part of my contract with Cell C and I was never notified of it. Had I been notified of such an amendment to my contract I would have declined it or cancelled my contract with Cell C.
I was told by a Cell C employee that this debacle is my fault!
