On Thursday last week I received spam from Hifi Corporation. I invested some effort to bypass their covert modus operandi & acquired the email address of their Marketing Executive, Neil McLean. I emailed him with a detailed account of the sequence of events that resulted in my emailing him.
I asked for two things:
1. That, in terms of the Consumer Protection Act, they remove permanently & irrevocably every bit of data about me held on their various storage / retrieval / spam / etc databases / systems.
2. A letter of apology for their spam & confirmation that the above was completed, to be delivered by Monday this week.
As one can expect from a rude obnoxious company, he did not send anything to me. I gave them much leniency until this evening, Wednesday, that's 2days after the indicated deadline, & followed up.
I forwarded my original email to him, & received a delivery failure notice stating "Email rejected due to security policies"!
Seems that Hifi Corporation deem a request for compliance with the law as a security risk!
No, Mr. McLean, unacceptable! I still require that apology letter & confirmation that you are not delinquent in terms of the Consumer Protection Act.
