I took my wife to the Umhlanga Trauma unit with chest pains. She was seen by the attending DR who wanted a blood test done and the results would take an hour to be released. Unfortunately my kids were home alone and instead of waiting we asked if we could call for the results. The nurse advised the DR said she understands and this is fine. This was at 11 pm on the 16th December. From 1 pm we have been calling non stop to get the results. For more that 24 hours I have been battling to get the results after making more than 15 calls.
All we get told is the Dr is very busy and the results have not been read as yet. This is despite my wife's condition not improving.
I have called more than 5 times to the Trauma unit and my wife called more than 10 times. Still no call back and we were told the results are sitting on the Dr's desk. I have even requested the results be sent to my DR because I am so frustrated with having to beg for results that I have paid for.
I will be taking this matter to the HPCSA as I believe this I absolutely pathetic care. Your trauma unit treats patients like they mean nothing.
