Equalzeal has presented two 2hr sessions on study skills at the school where I work. Our head has cancelled the third session, the reason being - so far we have not learned anything. All teachers who attended are qualified in the teaching field, myself having a BEd. What concerns me most is that the presenter of this course referred to her clients (school children) which have appointments with her, needing 3 months of counselling with her before any significant results are seen in study skills. Obviously these children pay to receive this service. Ponder this - how much money has been spent after 3 months when parents realise this 'course' is not working for their child? I was eager to learn from this course but after the second session myself and 7 other teachers realised that it was a total waste of time. There is nothing we can use in the classroom - the course presenters opinion (that is all we got) comes at a very high price. I expected a professional course with power point or smartboard presentation or handouts, not for someone to stand and give me wishy washy reasons as to why children struggle to study. What a disappointment.
