I took my car to Fiat Helderberg because I heard a strange noise. They identified the problem as the gearbox and quoted me almost R19 000 to replace it. The car is a 2009 Fiat Punto with just over 50 000 kilometers on the clock. I bought the car a year ago from them and was told that the car previously belonged to Fiat SA. We approached Fiat SA for some goodwill, mainly because of the low kilometers but this was rejected. It was since established that a control bearing collapsed or disintegrated, and I was now quoted R5 600 for repairs, but Fiat SA is still not prepared to accept responsibility. This process took almost three weeks. I have now given the go-ahead for repairs, but was told that it will take 3 days to get parts. Today, the car has been with them for 3 weeks. Nobody is really concerned that I have been without transport for this period. Phone calls are not returned
