I was involved in a hit and run accident on the N1 towards Cape Town which was caused by a UTi truck diver. The driver came in from the right lane and clipped the front of my vehicle as he was coming into the left lane and I had to do an emergency stop. From there, my vehicle could no longer move and I had to get assistance to remove it from the road. The driver did not even stop, he just kept going. Luckily the person who was driving behind me saw the whole event and managed to get the details of the truck. I also reported this to the police and a docket was opened.
I reported this to UTi but I haven't received any feedback regarding my claim. All I heard was that the truck doesn't belong to them but that is none of my concern as it had UTi branding. It has been 4 months since this happened and I have been inconvenienced since the accident in the worst way. The witness even said we were lucky as the accident could have been worse as he saw it.
I now need to fork out R6500 because of this, and I cannot afford losing that kind of money. I think its only fair that they compensate me as I would not be in this predicament if it weren't for the UTi truck.
