Disabling Account without informing me

I tried to deposit money into my account which is over 10 years old. This was possible last month with no issues, however this month without prior notice and today being the second last day of the month I'm told that my account has been suspended and that proof of residence and other documents are required. The bank in no way informed or attempted to notified me about this. Finding this out at this time of the month when debt orders are due and the fact that I'm out of the province causes a huge problem. FNB seems to be unhelpful and it looks like they can be compared to a bakery, where everybody stands around looking like a CAKE.
