This doctor will during pre-surgery discussions agree on certain rates (to secure the business) and his billing department will charge substantially more. The accounts personnel are difficult to reach, his wife does his accounts in Pietermaritzburg and keeps her own hours at the office whilst his formal accounts are handled by a firm in Gauteng, this results in chaos when trying to sort out the account. I was re-assured by the doctor in person that all will be "sorted out" only to be handed over to a collection firm with additional amounts payable. Furthermore huge amounts of money is charged for the completion of reports that is then not done or is then not fully completed. South Africa has a tendency not to publish complaints and I hope this one will be available to the public as to warn patients about this unethical behaviour. I have in the meantime lodged a complaint for misconduct with the South African medical council.
