I had secured motor insurance from Mutual & Federal last year at a premium of R693 per month.
This month M & F had deducted an amount of R1164.23 from my account. Upon querying this deduction via my broker, M & F advised that this was NOT due to any annual policy anniversary increase, but was due to M & F no longer offering motor vehicle insurance alone (ie, without household content insurance). My broker was also advised by a Head Office employee that nothing could be done to maintain the original premium and if I didn't like it I could obtain insurance elsewhere. I was NEVER contacted by M & F at ANY POINT to be apprised of their intention to increase my premium nor was this communicated to my brokers office. This was a UNILATERAL decision at the instance of M&F to, firstly, make an unauthorised additional deduction from my account and secondly, to affect an increase to my premiums on a monthly basis, thereby materially altering the terms and conditions of my original policy. My broker is currently liaising with the Head Office in respect of this matter but quite frankly, the arrogant behaviour (to put it mildly) displayed by M&F deserves to be made public. Disgusted.
