I bought an ottimo sandwich maker (Model:6852070 (ST-06C)) in July 2013 and after few uses the non stick coating on the inside came off. This is still within the warranty period but when I took it to Checkers at Stellenbosch where it was bought, the lady indicated that this is due to negligence. She determined this without any question asked to me about the product. According to the Consumer Protection Act she has to prove that I was negligent and that I mishandled the product according to the care guidelines in the instruction manual.
The staff at Checkers first refer me from one person to another and after I was helped by somebody, she took the product to someone else (Laetitia). She could not answer me and was paging through the manual for an answer eventually throwing the manual on the counter and ask the other ladies to put it in the box. This is a very cheap product but the staff of this branch continuously treat clients badly and that is unacceptable and inexcusable in retail.
