Chalk in Jelly Tots

I bought a packet of Original Jelly Tots (second time this has happened), I noticed a hard white ball inside. Only to my disgust to find chalk once again in my packet. Can someone please explain to me how exactly chalk fits into the making of Jelly Tots!!!???
