I stopped in very briefly at the Bird Cage tea shop in van Riebeek Street Stellenbosch looking for a quick take away meal. I was mostly hoping to walk in, grab a ready made sandwich (or something similar) and leave as I had very little time available.
I walked in, the place was very clean, well presented, and very pleasing on the eye. They had the most amazing sweet treats for sale, but sadly no ready made healthy food. The lady in charge immediately came to my assistance and asked if she could help. I told her I was looking for a quick meal, not junk food, but I needed it asap. She immediately pulled out a menu and showed me 2 options, saying she would recommend one of them (open sandwiches). She confirmed I could have it takeaway and she, herself, would go and make it and have it ready for me in just 5 min.
So I chose one (moroccan rye bread, smoked trout, guacamole, dried cranberries and watercress). Literally within 5 min she was back with the finished product, and oh my gosh it was DELICIOUS!
I was so impressed with the efficient, non-pushy, quick service and the quality of the food was amazing.
Will definitely recommend this place.
