I received a letter from Absa informing me that my credit limit was being drastically reduced - basically I was a credit risk. Now I hardly use my credit card, have banked with Absa for 20 odd years and have never had any issues relating to credit. When I called and asked why my limit had so drastically been cut I was informed that the system automatically does this when there is money owing. I asked how much and was advised in one month it was about R 250 and the other R90 - so I asked to lodge a complaint as I could not believe that with my track record and so little outstanding, a computer could decide I was a credit risk. That was on Friday, 8 Feb. On Monday morning 11 Feb I was called and advised that my account had been checked and my credit limit reinstated at the previous higher amount. Absa apologised. So for me a bad situation was very quickly and efficiently dealt with by the bank and I felt vindicated. Complaining is worth it sometimes.
