In 2008 I was under Debt review and had to close my Absa account as my wife's account was used for payment to debt councellor. All our debts has since been paid up. At the time I requested Absa to close the account and some time later, after receiving statements that I owe them I went back again to request the account to be closed, One of their officials even took my debit card and broke it infront of me. Now, almost three years later, and no statements received whatsoever, I found out that this account has never been closed and charges are charged on charges. Had I not applied for a car loan I would be non the wiser. The amount is now exorbitant and I feel that the banks are taking the man on the street for a ride as we are not always vigilant in terms of how things work. I trusted the bank to close this account and never thought to keep anything as proof. Please help.
