No recurring Data bundle allowed

So I upgrade my phone yesterday and today when I would like to put a recurring data bundle of 500mb I get told sorry you can't you can only do it once off... really so I have to phone every month to add a data bundle to a contract... an open contract at that.
The reasoning behind it is coz MTN gives me 150mb data for free.
Now I have another contract where I have a 1 gig recurring data as well as the 150mb data that I get every month. That is not a problem to add but not on the other contract.
I find it disappointing and sad that MTN's services is busy going down the drain.
