Billed for R3500 and MTN can't explain why

I have had nothing but bad service from them over the past 2 months, from the time I wanted to change my package to recently when they sent me an sms saying I owe R3579.14 for DATA usage. I use loyalty points to buy data bundles so I was dumbfounded by this sms. I called in, 4 agents told me 4 different stories about this amount. One said it's for calls, another said they can't pick it up on their system, another said it was for data, can't remember what the other said. Today they suspend my line saying I have to pay this amount. I ask for details of this invoice, as in the period I ran up this bill. I was told to wait for the 26th when invoice is finally closed, make payment then they will investigate and refund me. That makes no sense at all. I told them I won't pay until I have full details. My line is open again but I'm afraid something else will go wrong, either suspend my data bundles or my line again, based on this silly amount I supposedly owe. I have names of all the agents I spoke to, as I also record my calls :). Someone needs to explain why I owe R3579.14 for a period of less than 24 hours when I had no data which magically disappeared as well, by the way.
