In April this year, I got the shock of my life when my MTN 3G invoice came with an amount of R4, 863.61 from the usual R149 a month that I have been paying. Since April, I have been asking for a URL report indicating which websites I visited and how much data was used on each, but up to now such a report has not been forthcoming. MTN was quick to suspend both my data and voice lines and tarnish my credit record but up to now they are still billing me for the lines tthey have suspended. For the more than 5 years that I have been using 3G Internet, starting with Vodacom (top-up contract) for 2 years and then with Cell C (prepaid) for 3 years, I have never used up 2 gigabytes of data per month. The answers as to what happened are in that URL Report that MTN is not giving me.

Secondly, my data line is supposed to be a top-up line (just as was my voice line) since that is what I requested. My contract summary states (Package: MTN Broadband 2G; Tariff: FRE BdBand 2G@R149), but MTN tells me it is an open contract. This is not the first time that MTN has changed my top-up line to an open contract without my permission and made me pay for it, in addition to tarnishing my credit profile.
