I took out a data contract with a tablet for R399/month from mtn in December 2012, my average spend has always been 399/month. due to poor data service from mtn in sandton (always on edge) I have resorted to using a prepaid sim in my tablet from Telkom, and I have generally kept my mtn data sim in my wallet, what I did not know is that mtn sim had disappeared from my wallet into the hands of a who during the month of may racked up R8200 by making 1586 phone calls.
I picked this up when I just got my statement, I immediately contacted mtn 808 call centre and once I finally got through the call centre agents first response is we'll suspend the line but its your problem to pay not ours. even when I raised the fact that it was a data sim how could voice calls be made I was told it was not there problem... I have tried contacting 808 to get assistance but after waiting for 30minutes each time with no response I given up, I even went to their service centre with no assistance other than to give me a itemized bill. no assistance from mtn on the best way forward nothing other than "report it at the police station sir if you want another sim card" .criminals get better service
