I have bond insurance with Standard Bank Insurance Brokers and on Wednesday 6th February 2013 my electricity cable leading from my house to the Eskom box was hit by lightning. I logged a call with Standard Home assist at 19:30 and was told that they only cater for Internal faults and I should call and put in a claim the next morning at 8. I asked what about the fact that I had no power and they said it was not their problem. I spent the night without power and the next morning called at 8 to log a claim. I was given a claim number and told that one of their appointed electricians would call me shortly. I then received a series of calls from various electricians and also call centre agents and the bottom line was that they could only help me by Wednesday. I then went ahead and got a local electrician (not bank approved) to lay a temporary cable. I am now sitting 9 days later (R3, 700 out of pocket) and the banks approved service providers have still not restored my service and they are leaving me to deal with incompetent electricians that they keep sending to my property.
I will definitely be cancelling my policy with SBIB once they have honoured my claim.
