Outsurance
Excluded on flood damage!!

Business & Finance

I have been a customer of Outsurance for many years having both my car and household insurance with them. On Sunday 3 February 2013 the cistern of the toilet in my en-suite bathroom leaked, flooding the main bedroom of the house. In all the years that I have been an Outsurance client I have never made a claim. I claimed for damage to some furniture and curtains, and had the courtesy to arrange for flood recovery of my carpet immediately thus saving the insurance company over R9, 000.00 which was the cost of the carpet when I laid it less than 2 months ago. Imagine my complete surprise when I was contacted by Outsurance to advise me that the claim would be paid BUT any future flood damage will now be excluded from my policy!!! Is that normal practice - someone has one flood and all of a sudden their flood insurance is denied? Not only do I have my personal insurance with the company but I am also the owner of a business who has insurance with the company. I have to now consider my other options and moving my entire portfolio.
