Up to 48hours for an email!

On 4 September I requested that my Garage Card account be closed. I just called the Call Centre to ask for an email to be sent confirming that the account has indeed been closed. The lady informed me that it could take up to 48 (work) hours for such an email to be generated as it is done in some back office department. Really? Everything is automated, but to send a simple email takes up to 48 work hours. You mean to tell me I may get this email only next week? One would have thought that it would be standard practice to automatically send such an email when an account closure request is received on their side, seeing as I was unable to close the account when I was inside the branch - oh no, they insisted on a fax. Apparently they did send me a SMS. Great! Why must I be happy with a SMS but they insist on a fax? I cannot really complain about the service - as there is no real service to speak of! Go figure.
