Last month I missed the debit order. I didn't even notice it nor did anyone from Telkom's side contact me. All of a sudden I'm disconnected and handed over to some collections firm. I assumed they would, like any of the real mobile operators, collect whatever is outstanding at the end of that same month (two weeks to be exact). Apparently Telkom doesn't work that way. Telkom proceded to collect an amount which I thought was my bill. Still disconnected. I notice debit order which their collections department is trying to put through. Contact the collections people to arrange payment. On inquiring why I wasn't notified about the debit orders they respond by telling me they sent an SMS to me... on my disconnected number...!!! After contacting the customer care department they tell me that I have to pay over more money to get me reconnected. I pay over some more money, I send through proof of payment and plead with agents, supervisors, admin departments to get my account sorted, ...still disconnected. This morning I get slapped with a debit order, for the amount I transferred. I'm down R2640.??? I was with MTN for 10 years and would sign right now if they would put me out of my misery.
