MTN is exempted from the regulations of the NCA

Telecommunications

According to my knowledge Section 129 of the National Credit Act, 2005 prescribes the "Required procedures before debt enforcement". Seemingly MTN is exempted from the regulations of the NCA.

In September last year I terminated my contract with MTN because after my contract had reached it expiry date of 24 months they took it upon themselves to increase my subscription without any notification. So my airtime was still the same, I was still using my 2 and a half year old BB but I was demanded to pay R100.00 more. Seriously?

I had second contract with MTN @ R50pm which I literally forgot about after the phone got. In January this year I get an email in my spam from debt collectors allegedly sent from MTN. Which I obviously ignored... it's in my spam and I'm not aware of any legal action coming my way from MTN... of course not, because Section 129 of the NATIONAL CREDIT ACT, 2005 prescribes the "Required procedures before debt enforcement"... Low and behold, seemingly MTN is exempted from the NCA's Regulations and as advised I must just pay the almost R 4 000.00 demanded to salvage my credit record.

What bullies :(
